What is immersive theatre?

Immersive theatre lies on a spectrum from the wildly interactive escape and puzzle rooms to stories told with an engaging atmosphere that the audience feels they can live in. The magic and metaphors of an immersive play extend into its form, meaning the physical life and manifestation of the play, which allows audiences and artists alike to explore stories even deeper down the rabbit hole.

Possession is largely immersive in its intimate environment, with some exceptions.  The Pocket Playhouse is a small and intimate theatre, and in this play, it becomes a sanctuary of secrets, a haunt for the undead, and a cloister for violence and tragedy. â€‹Then, select brave members of the audience will be invited to follow characters on separate paths that snake into the rest of the building, telling special, singular stories that the others do not witness. The secrets of this family cannot be contained in one space, meaning that no one audience member can possibly know every lie told within the play.

All in all, the effect is of living and experiencing a story in the present. Theatre, especially immersive theatre, gives you what television and movies cannot: an immediate, ephemeral experience that differs for each person bearing witness.
